On Sandy Hook, A Coyote Surprises Photographer

John Entwistle captured this image of a coyote on Jan. 7, near the bayside beach on Sandy Hook. Entwistle, of Farmingdale, and a friend, had come to snap photos of the harbor seals that show up on the Hook in wintertime. “The coyote came out on the trail and startled us a bit. We just stopped in our tracks and froze, we were unsure what was going to happen next,” he said. Since his Nikon was handy and he was about 50 feet away, Entwistle was able to squeeze off a dozen shots before the animal disappeared into the brush. He later heard the animal had been seen earlier in Sea Bright and Long Branch, and was likely exploring the beach “I thought we were lucky to see it.” See more of Entwistile’s photography at facebook.com/johnentwistlephotography/.
