LAKEWOOD – Although it wasn’t a division game, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional looked sharp, especially on defense, to defeat previously unbeaten Lakewood, 30-14 Saturday.
Quarterback Michael O’Connor threw touchdown passes of 15 and 14 yards to Elija McAllister and John Kingdon respectively while Mike Caruso returned an interception 87 yards for a score and Bryan Hess added a 7-yard run to account for the other two touchdowns.
Thomas Chapin added a 34-yard field goal for the Bulldogs (5-1), who held the Piners to just 43 yards rushing. One of the Lakewood touchdowns was on an interception.
Overall, the Rumson defense has allowed only 33 points this season and the win puts the Bulldogs in second place in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III power ratings. Red Bank Regional was idle last week.
Red Bank had 105 points while Rumson is a close second with 103.

RBC 33, Manalapan 14

MANALAPAN – If Red Bank Catholic had any negative effects from its loss to Red Bank the previous week, it wasn’t evident Friday night.
With quarterback Eddie Hahn, apparently fully recovered from a pre-season meniscus injury, setting the pace, RBC (6-1) rallied with 20 points in the second half to win the game.
Hahn completed 16 of 23 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 63 yards.
“Red Bank had the better team that night and we just put that game out of the way following a meeting Sunday,” said RBC coach Jim Portella.
“Eddie had a good opportunity to play a good game with the way Manalapan was playing on defense, and we made some adjustments,” he said.
Hahn threw touchdown passes of 26 and eight yards to Max Hazard and Dylan Murphy scored two more touchdowns on short runs. Mike Wilen tallied the other RBC touchdown on a 57-yard run.

Midd. South 21, Brick Memorial 3

BRICK TOWNSHIP – Brick Memorial held unbeaten Middletown South (6-0) to its lowest score of the season, but the Eagles had a solid defense of their own.
Capitalizing on Brick Memorial turnovers, South overcame a 3-0 deficit to score three touchdowns in the last five minutes of the first half.
Junior James McCarthy scored two of the South touchdowns on short runs and added an interception while Cole Rogers scored the other touchdown on a 14-yard run.

Shore 52, South River 7

SOUTH RIVER – Unbeaten Shore (6-0) extended its overall win streak to 14 games in its rout of South River.
Doug Goldsmith scored a pair of touchdowns while Josh Campi, Devan McLaughlin, Mat Pennell, Alex Johnson and Jack Britton had the other scores.
Shore had 529 yards of total offense while its defense held South River to 46 yards rushing.
Shore will travel to Point Pleasant Beach Friday, and a win would clinch its second straight B Central championship

St. John Vianney 63, Donovan Catholic 21

TOMS RIVER –SJV quarterback Anthony Brown threw for two touchdowns and scored two more himself as unbeaten St. John Vianney (7-0) crushed Donovan Catholic.
