RED BANK – On June 15, 1,514 runners descended on Red Bank for the second annual Red Bank Classic 5K. Among the runners was Gov. Phil Murphy’s wife, Tammy. Runners filled a large section of Broad Street while they warmed up for the 3.1-mile challenge, led by a trainer from Soul Strong Fitness. Ascending Tower Hill challenged many runners as they made their way along the race route. The first female to cross the finish line was 8-year-old Ava Johnson from Haddonfield with an incredible time of 18:38. First place overall went to Dave Favorito from Galloway with a time of 16:45.

Before the awards ceremony Jennifer Dunn of The Community YMCA thanked runners and the race committee for raising support for the Y and the Red Bank Department of Parks and Recreation. Katie McAdoo, who oversees the Y’s Red Bank branch, added that the money raised will go back into the community in the form of financial assistance so no child will be turned away from being able to enjoy all the Red Bank Family YMCA has to offer.
