SANDY HOOK – The American Littoral Society and the Sandy Hook Foundation are co-hosting their annual End of Summer Party, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at the North Beach Pavilion.
The setting on North Beach enables guests to enjoy the sunset and night time view of the New York City skyline while dining on unique and award winning delicacies made possible by historic and legendary restaurants in the area.
The event also includes an auction with unusual and highly-sought after items on the block, including Pulitzer Prize-winning photographers of coastal scenes.
Dancing will be to the music of the Bobby Lynch Band.
The auction will feature unique experiences and prizes, including a Delaware Bay bird-banding excursion, which includes a two-night stay in spring, 2016 at a Cape May beach house for up to five guests. The high bidder and guests will join world-class ornithologists for a unique experience of banding endangered Red Knots as they make a critical feeding layover in Delaware Bay during their annual trek from South America to the arctic.
Although the evening is a major fundraiser for both the foundation and the society, because of the significance of the Sept. 11 date, there will also be special recognition during the evening to commemorate the 2001 disaster.
Housed in the historic Lighthouse Keepers’ Quarters, the Sandy Hook Foundation is the official friends group of the National Park Service at Sandy Hook and supports the park in all circumstances, notably the preservation of the iconic Sandy Hook Lighthouse and Keepers’ Quarters.
The American Littoral Society headquarters is Building 18 on Fort Hancock’s Officer’s Row, a resident there since 1961 when the society began its work of restoring miles of New Jersey coastal wetlands shores. Since that time, the Society has been in the forefront of empowering people to care for their coast through advocacy, education, and conservation with the result of restoration of healthy, resilient habitats.
Proceeds from the event will benefit both organizations. Tickets begin at $140. For more information about the event or to purchase tickets, visit www.littoralsoci- ety.org or www.sandyhookfoundation nj.org or call Laurie Bratone at 732-291- 0055 x. 110.
