COLTS NECK – A legal challenge from two developers, backed by the statewide advocacy group Fair Share Housing Center, has compelled township officials to designate three large properties for affordable housing.

FAIR HAVEN – On a quiet neighborhood street in Fair Haven, volunteers in paint-splattered clothes work side-by-side with future homeowner Lindsay McCue, rolling fresh coats of white paint along the walls of what will soon become her family’s new home.

LITTLE SILVER – The borough recently adopted a Housing Element and Fair Share Plan, joining a record-setting wave of municipalities this year complying with the state’s affordable housing mandates during the decade-long fourth round planning cycle.

RED BANK – Borough officials have approved a new financial agreement with the developer of the Locust Landing apartment complex that will enable the borough to claim up to 40 credits toward its fourth-round affordable housing obligation.

HOLMDEL – Nearly 106 new affordable units will have to be constructed in the township and 129 existing units must be rehabilitated to code under the state’s fourth round of fair share housing obligations.

SEA BRIGHT – The Sea Bright Borough Council has endorsed the town’s fair share housing plan, complying with state requirements under New Jersey’s updated affordable housing laws.

FORT MONMOUTH – An 18.6-acre site on Fort Monmouth in Eatontown near the long-shuttered Burger King is being offered for sale to a purchaser who must develop a 62-unit affordable housing community of townhouses, apart- ments and/or single-family detached homes. A 13.4-acre adjacent property, formerly the fort’s football field, will become open space.

RED BANK – The borough’s planning board voted to approve a scaled-down version of the mixed-use train station redevelopment plan at its June 11 meeting, once again coming face-to- face with both hope and hesitation from the public about affordable housing, traffic and community character.

HOLMDEL – In the next 10 years, the township will build 106 affordable housing units, a number hailed as a “huge win” by township officials compared with the 133 units originally proposed by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) last year under the state’s Fair Share Housing Act.

COLTS NECK – External threats and infighting among township officials fueled by conflicts over affordable housing plans have set a contentious political stage as the township enters primary season.
