A 23.78-acre wooded area between Hope and Pinebrook roads in the Tinton Falls section of Fort Monmouth is being purchased by the county for a new passive recreation park.

The United States Army Chaplain Corps celebrates its 284th birthday July 29. Today, the Chaplain Corps is headquartered on Fort Jackson, South Carolina. However, the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School – the only training center for the Army’s clergy – could once be found right here in Monmouth County. It operated out of Fort Monmouth from 1979- 1995, in a building named for a New Jersey hero killed during the Vietnam War.

Next month New Jersey will become the first state in the nation to use scientific “predictive precipitation modeling” for future developments, hopefully reducing flooding in some inland areas.

Residents of Hope Road may have found some respite after years of urging the borough to restrict oversize vehicles on the residential road.

Sports businesses and a fruit-forward franchise are the first lessees at RiverWalk Center, a commercial redevelopment on 12 acres inside the Oceanport Avenue gates of Fort Monmouth. Horse racing enthusiasts will flock to the Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport this summer, as they have since its opening in 1946. But that racetrack is not the first in eastern Monmouth County to delight residents and lure tourists to the area.

A new festival that organizers hope will become an annual event will debut on the grounds of Fort Monmouth’s historic Russel Hall June 3 and 4, bringing food, music, and revelers inside the fort’s Oceanport Avenue gates.
