ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – In a not entirely unexpected turnaround, Democrats have swept the races in Atlantic Highlands.

In the run-up to the general election Nov. 7, The Two River Times reached out to candidates in our coverage area to get their perspective on effective governance and the impact voting can have on a community.

The Holmdel Board of Education voted during its Sept. 27 meeting to abolish its transgender student policy, state Department of Education guidance Policy 5756. A second confirmation vote, slated for its next regular meeting in October, will officially repeal the policy if it passes. Until then, Policy 5756 remains in effect.

After years of studies and discussions, residents went to the polls to vote on the future of their public school districts and regionalization passed by a wide margin.

Residents of Atlantic Highlands and Highlands will go to the polls Sept. 26 to decide the future of their public school system.

The state cleared up confusion about last year’s general election in a recent report, noting a software error was to blame for incorrect vote counts. The report discloses why in four Monmouth County municipalities, some votes were counted twice.

A resolution added last minute to the borough council’s meeting agenda to add the Red Bank Senior Center property to the state’s Recreation and Open Space Inventory (ROSI) passed with a majority vote.

A number of county residents have recently announced their intentions to run for office this year.
