Twin Lights Ride to Aid Highlands Residents Impacted by Sandy

HIGHLANDS – The 12th Annual Twin Lights Ride on Sunday, Sept. 29 will again be produced by Bike New York and the Highlands Business Partnership (HBP).
The family-friendly event will take cyclists through Monmouth County, affording them views of the sea, numerous small towns, and the 1,180-acre Sandy Hook peninsula.
The HBP also hopes to raise awareness and funds for its Hope for Highlands initiative to restore parts of the community damaged by Super Storm Sandy and to provide financial aid to those Highlands residents displaced by the storm.
Cyclists can choose one of four options – 30, 55, 75 or 100-miles – packed with stunning scenery. Rest stops along the way will provide riders with the chance to refresh themselves and enjoy pies (courtesy of 102-year-old Delicious Orchards) and a perennially popular Twin Lights Ride attraction: a chocolate fountain with fruit and marshmallows for dipping.
The Twin Lights Ride begins and ends in Huddy Park, where Bike New York will host a post-ride Festival at the Highlands, complete with musical entertainment and locally sourced food and refreshments from the region’s many seafood restaurants. Riders also will be able to pick up their commemorative Twin Lights Ride T-shirts at the celebration.
The ride will be held rain or shine on Sept. 29 with starting times varying from 7:30 a.m. thorough 9:15 a.m. based on route length.
Route options:
• 30 miles – Oceanport Loop: A ride through Monmouth County communities south and west of Highlands, including Rumson, Oceanport and Middletown.
