New York City-based developer Kushner Companies held a ceremonial groundbreaking May 9, kickstarting construction on a transformative $500 million project to redevelop the aging Monmouth Mall.

What looks like a large hole in the center of Monmouth Mall right now will soon be the gateway to an outdoor promenade surrounded by small retail stores, residences and parks – for both people and dogs.

The proposed Colts Neck Manor housing project has advanced to the state for final approval after the Monmouth County Commissioners gave it the go-ahead despite strong public pushback.

Come spring, Monmouth Mall will be turning over a new leaf. The high-profile, long-awaited redevelopment of the area landmark undertaken by owner and real estate developer Kushner Companies will begin in March, transforming the site into 1,000 residences and an open-air retail shopping complex, as it originally was in 1960.
