FORT MONMOUTH – It was more a celebration than a press conference. Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, traveled to Fort Monmouth last Friday to take center stage at a press event announcing a key step toward building its planned production facility on the former U.S. Army Base.

McKenzie A. Wilson of Jersey City has been named chair of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA), filling the position that has been vacant since the passing of Robert Lucky, formerly of Fair Haven, in March 2022. 

Netflix has completed a key initial phase in purchasing almost 300 acres of Fort Monmouth known as the Mega Parcel for its new film production studio. The challenges of redeveloping a 100-year-old former military base took center stage during May’s monthly meeting of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) as representatives for two major projects – Netflix at Fort Monmouth Studios and a new campus for Monmouth Medical Center – requested and received time extensions.

Until Netflix begins building its planned production facility on Fort Monmouth’s Mega Parcel, someone has to mow the grass.

While scouting locations for commemorative markers along Fort Monmouth’s new Riverwalk promenade on Parkers Creek, members of Oceanport’s Historical Committee were met with “No Trespassing” signs in the East Gate development. Subsequently, Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) officials launched an inquiry into their origin.
