There’s no shortage of news coverage for those wishing to learn more about Netflix building a state-of-the-art facility on a large portion of the former Fort Monmouth. One interesting tidbit left out of most news coverage, though, is that movies and television shows have already been produced on the site – by the U.S. Army Signal Corps.

A hotel, helipad, attractions, a visitor center and retail components are all allowed on the 292-acre Mega Parcel on track to become Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth.

During its final meeting of the year last night, the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) was poised to vote on a Purchase and Sale & Redevelopment Agreement (PSARA) with Netflix for the fort’s 292-acre Mega Parcel in Eatontown and Oceanport.

Netflix and the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) confirmed yesterday that the entertainment firm is the top bidder for the 292-acre Fort Monmouth Mega Parcel spanning portions of Eatontown and Oceanport, with the intention of constructing a production facility. Many steps remain before a sale is finalized.

A woman using the name of a deceased female Army veteran rather than her own is speaking for an anonymous group of indeterminate size opposing Netflix, or any other film studio, coming to Fort Monmouth.

It was over in 10 minutes. The long-awaited, highly anticipated opening of bids to purchase and redevelop a 292-acre portion of Fort Monmouth was officially conducted at 12:30 p.m.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. June 6, bid proposals to redevelop over 290 acres – most of the remaining unsold property on the former Fort Monmouth known as the Mega Parcel – will be opened by staff of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA). While the names of the bidding entities will be made public, little else will be known about what those proposals contain for months.

The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority reissued its Request for Offers to Purchase the 292-acre site known as the Mega Parcel, located within the boroughs of Eatontown and Oceanport on the former U.S. Army base. Responses are due by noon June 6.

TRENTON – As the revamped bid process to determine whether Netflix eventually builds a new production complex on the former Fort Monmouth plays out, the state has taken actions to boost the state’s film industry.

Netflix may be eyeing Fort Monmouth for a production hub in the next few years, but Hollywood is already a big part of Monmouth County, and has been for some time.
