RUMSON – On Oct. 5, with the sun shining and a slight breeze, over 15 people launched their kayaks from the Rumson Boat Ramp to help clean up the Navesink River.

Coastal waters off New Jersey once teemed with wildlife, from shorebirds and horseshoe crabs to seals and sea turtles, now under increasing threat from factors as diverse as climate change to development to discarded fishing line.
