OCEANPORT – Construction is underway to turn a 6,000-square-foot portion of Fort Monmouth’s RiverWalk Center into a new brewery and tap room, expected to open by the end of this year.

Two River area municipalities are getting their act together before the giant film and television production studio Netflix Inc. moves into the former Fort Monmouth U.S. Army post.

Delays for two high-profile residential projects on the former U.S. Army post and progress on the fort’s walking trail were addressed during the May 15 meeting of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA).

Netflix Inc., on track to purchase almost 300 acres of the former Fort Monmouth U.S. Army base for a major production studio in Monmouth County, was designated a “Studio Partner” by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) last week, giving the entertainment giant access to expanded benefits under the state’s Film and Digital Media Tax Credit program.

A new county park and a public safety use for an empty firehouse, both in Tinton Falls, advanced at the April 17 meeting of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA).

It is reassuring to see that not only are a good number of new restaurants opening in the Two River area but also that the incredible piece of property once home to Fort Monmouth is being repurposed in inventive ways.
