Horse racing enthusiasts will flock to the Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport this summer, as they have since its opening in 1946. But that racetrack is not the first in eastern Monmouth County to delight residents and lure tourists to the area.

Having dined with great pleasure at Maya, the recently closed, exceptional oceanfront restaurant on the Caribbean Island of St. Bart’s, with its emphasis on fresh, simply prepared local foods, I had a feeling of déjà vu to eat at Maya, located in the Wave Hotel, Long Branch, also facing the Ocean.

Monmouth County native Michael Benson returns to Long Branch beaches Aug. 20 to host Surfing for Vision, an event to help visually impaired, blind or legally blind individuals experience the joy of surfing.
