Patrick “Scapper” Shopp, 54, of Port Monmouth, passed away unexpectedly June 10, 2021, at Riverview Medical Center. Pat was born Sept. 16, 1966 in Jersey City, a son of the late Ronald and Margaret Shopp. His family moved to Belford when he was an infant and he lived in the Bayshore area his entire life.

Patrick was known as Scapper to his friends and peers and got the name by being one of the best crabbers around. He was a commercial fisherman and captained the boat The Scapper out of Belford for many years. In his free time Pat loved to be with his family. They would often go camping, fishing or just be home enjoying a feast that he would prepare. His family dubbed him the “best chef ever!” He was also an avid sports fan. He would always be sure to watch his favorite teams, the Giants and Yankees, when they played or a race when NASCAR was on. Pat will always be fondly remembered as wonderful, selfless man who was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Pat is survived by the love of his life Lyn Shopp, along with his son Patrick D. Shopp and two stepdaughters, Samantha Maxted and Madison Foulks. Pat also leaves behind his seven siblings, Albert (Debbie) Shopp, Ronald Jr. (Claire), Christine Marnian, Joseph Shopp, Carol Ann Bedford, Timothy (Rosie) Shopp and James Shopp; three grandchildren, PJ, Bristol and Aiden; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend and loyal companion, his dog Toby.

Friends and family were invited to attend a memorial gathering June 17 at Scott & Kedz Hone for Funerals. A memorial service concluded the evening.
